| Pull - Ups
What up all?
Whats ur progress on Pull-ups ?
I'm doing sets of 30 reps right now, i hope i can manage 35, in a month orso.
On a single day , i do like 10 sets of 30 reps .. sometimes.. when i'm ill or i had no food that day i do 20 ,25 reps.
Everytime i Pull-up i feel shoulder pain, i hope it gets healed soon.. so i can grow to 35, it has been more than 6 -8 months since the injury.
So where you @ with your pull-ups (in sets) ? Let me know , Peace !
PS: i dont know what to do in The future with School/Work my dream is to move to newyork and just workout everyday . with the crew. soon i m gettin the requirements in , when i get my pull up bar in the door, cause we dont have parks here, we got parks, but if they have a pull up bar they dont have dips. the netherlands is very low on that stuff.. but yea peace. |

| That's great stuff. I thought I was strong because I finally got 20, but I guess I'd better get back to practicing. |

| Wow, 10 sets of 30 reps - that's a beast!
Right now my max is around 25, with strict, very good form. I can do 3 or 4 sets of 20 reps (with a few minutes of rest between).
My goal is 30 and I've been wondering how to reach that goal. I've been stuck on 20-25 for some time now. Maybe it's because my form is so strict. I don't cheat at all - my elbows are totally locked out at the bottom and my chin is clearly over the bar. That's not an excuse though, but I just can't seem to increase my reps.
I've also tried this recently - every minute on the minute, 7 reps x 10 sets for 70 reps total. It was pretty hard to do 7 reps the last couple of sets.
I'll try what you suggested LittleBeastM, but with lower reps I reckon. |

| You look massive in that pic! What's your height and weight?
As for weighted pull-ups - I do go to the gym every now and again and stick a dumbell between my feet and do weighted reps. I usually start at 15kg and work my way up in 5 kg increments until I reach the 40kg dumbell. My workout looks something like this:
15kg x 12 reps 20kg x 12 reps 25kg x 10 reps 30kg x 8 reps 35kg x 6 reps 40kg x 4 reps
It's a pretty grueling workout.
Anyway, my goal is 30 and I hope I can reach it soon.
Hope you're feeling better soon. |

| First off, thanks for the tip LittleBeastM. 20 really is my absolute max, so I'll try your advice scaled down a bit. As for the weighted pull-ups I read that this is very beneficial but the concensus of those who tried it is to stick with a lower weight (5-10 kg) and try to push your max reps with that, rather than using a heavy weight for lower reps. I guess the people who tried it found that if they trained with a heavy weight for low reps, then when they took the extra weight off they could blast through the early reps but still died at the same spot in the end. A number of years ago I tried low weight for high reps on my pull-ups and it worked well, but when I used high weight for low reps on my dips I gained nothing on my max bodyweight rep count. Just a thought. |

Yeah, I remember reading about this somewhere - thanks for jogging my memory! I'm going to give it a try. It makes a lot of sense.
I really like the pump after a set with a heavy weight though. I was also reading that using a very heavy weight helps your muscles adapt for training the one-arm pull-ups/chin-ups. I think I read about this on the Beastskills website. I read about people being able to do a pull-up with their own bodyweight! Another goal of mine, although I can't imagine doing one right now with 77kg hanging off me! |

| hmm i wish i can post pics/videos but theres no one to help me video. i havent tried my maximum reps in a set yet, but heres a little tip for training pull-ups that i think these barbarians use a LOTS of:
strict form up and down slow and controlled is really old school training. dont get me wrong it is still useful but it wont get you anywhere if you stick to it. WHat we should be doing is explosive pullups. Trying to pull ourselves as though we are pulling our whole body straight up to where our legs touch the barr. in a muscle up, we pull ourselves as hard as possible (im talking about straight form muscle up) and then quickly turn our elbows a bit and the remaining of the motion is a push motion of somewhat a dip. imagine being able to pull up all the way that the endpoint of the pull is the top part of a muscle up.
that is our aim for a pull up. By training this way we will be able to exert much more force than a strick pull up.
after this, to test how many reps you can do in a set. Use the same technique as what i mentioned in the handstands- the relaxation technique. Use just enough force to pull yourself up and down. You would realise how much easier it is and how much more control you have with your muscles.
summarised: in training reps doesnt count - maximum exertion on each pull should be the goal. in testing - mininmum exertion for the whole range of motion |

| Hmmm, interesting.
I'll give it a go and see what happens.
When I'm going for maximum reps I never concentrate on the negative when I'm descending on the pull-up, I just let gravity take me down so I don't use more energy.
Thx for the tip! |

| hmm.. i havent actually tried/rested or tested for my max for nearly half a year now.. so i'll have to get back to you on that.. for training i usually do sets of 10 reps, each rep is of different speed and explosive strength used. some reps being extremely slow like the typewriters (the ones where they go left and right?) used in the videos and some close grip explosive so that i pull myself all the way to the waist. i have tried 1 handed pull/chin up with my max rep being 1 rep with strict form (i dont know how to cheat cause if i use some swing it tends to hurt my joints haha..). i dont train for high repetitions so i dont think my max reps will be too high. i think from my calculation (and past experience) my max would be 21reps.
cheers. |

| The most important thing is how you do them. Quality is more important, than quantity... |
