 behind the neck pull ups

ive been doing these for a while and people say its really bad for your shoulders should i stop doing them?

Anything that you are not prepared for is bad. On the other hand, if you are well conditioned, I think they could be a very valuable excercise. I know Coach Sommer uses them in his book BtGB.
If someone who cannot do a proper pullup does them, he has a higher chance for injury, than someone who has been doing for a while.

Before behind the neck, you should try Wide grip and Wide grip L-pull ups. Once that is easy, you can try those, but start easy and listen to your body for an signs of discomfort.
