| I'm currently doing horizontal pulls to build up strength to do a pull up, I knocked out 5 sets of 12 the other day, but I still can't get a proper pull up. I'm starting to do static holds as well, but is it worth adding a little weight to my pulls so I can do 5x6 or something?
Also, I can now do 3x20 push ups, should I add a little weight to those to build more strength, or move to feet elevated? |

I think the best way to get your first pull-up is to jump up on the bar to the top position and slowly lower yourself (as slow as you can)- this is called negative. You can also try the kipping technique, but I don't recommend it, because you can get used to it, and later even if you have the power to do clean pull ups, you may use it (which is not good).
For the pushups I say, start adding weight once you can get over 40-50 pushups in a row. I can do cca 60 pushups and never added weight, but I definitely progressing (muscle mass + strenght too). If you will be stronger, you can add HSPUs into your routine, it's an awesome exercise
Hope it helped a little. Train hard! |
