10 wide grip pullups

11 close grip pullups

11 chinups

neutral grip pullup 10 sec top, 10 sec middle, 10 sec bottom
middle position of a chinup 20 sec hold

bottom position of a dip 30 sec hold

1-8-1 diamond pushup pyramid


notes: new max of 19 pullups, kinda frustrated with my frog stand though, attempted to work with it but it's just not there today

Monday November 28th 2011:

19 pullups
32 dips
10 wide grip pullups
20 dips
9 close grip pullups
20 dips
6 chinups
15 dips


50 pushups in 2:18


Planche progression: Frog stand 1 min total work

longest hold: 10 sec

notes: felt noticeably weaker today, everything decreased except my first set of max pullups. I'm thinking it's a combination of too little sleep, poor nutrition from thanksgiving (not enough protein, too much sugar), too many rest days, and a little bit of unwanted weight gain resulting from said nutrition. Hopefully I'll have a better session on Wednesday.

Found some inspiration from a routine Skip posted (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5eotDHtgDQ ), so I went to the gym for round 2 to try it out:


1-10 pullup pyramid, 10 pushups after each "step"

x 2

= 110 pullups, 200 pushups

notes: I had to break up the pullups starting on step 8 of the first pyramid, then step 7 of the second pyramid. Definitely got a good burn from this workout. I can feel it a lot in my left rear shoulder, which is an area I've been trying to work on for a while.

= 102 pullups, 100 pushups, 87 dips total


typewriter pullups
typewriter dips

middle position of a pullup static hold 20 sec
bottom position of a dip static hold 25 sec

notes: Lots of people in the gym today, took more rest between sets than I'd like. I also think part of why my numbers have decreased slightly is because I haven't been doing as much work with static holds, so I'm gonna work those back into my routine. Also, I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night, and I'm still working off the extra weight from the holidays, so that probably affected things.

notes: I've been paying better attention to form on my dips, making sure to go all the way, all the way down, so my numbers are lower than a week or two ago.

Thanks for the suggestion nguyen, although I typically stay away from weights for a variety of reasons.

notes: Took it pretty easy today, as I had my two hardest finals right before this, so I was pretty fatigued mentally. Still hit a new max of 21 pullups though

Do you get a lot of mass doing this kind of a workout?
how much rest do you give yourself between sets?
this seems kinda fun to do ^__^

For this set, it was no more than 15 seconds. During a typical workout I try to take no more than 30 seconds to 1 minute or so between sets, although I have slower days where I'm fatigued or the gym is busy (I use my university gym while I'm there).

As for mass, I wouldn't say I've been doing this routine long enough to talk about mass results definitively, but if it helps, I'm up to about 142-143 from 140 when I started. I'm definitely leaner as well, while being more muscular in general. I'm going to be adding in more difficult moves into my routines though, so I'll let you know how that goes.

notes: For this workout, I was aiming to find out where I stand in each of the Convict Conditioning progressions (except squats, as my foot is still injured). Now that I've found my place, I'll be alternating workouts using the CC progressions with the more endurance based workouts I'm already doing. Also, I took a little fall going into the headstand the first time, so I'm gonna be more careful as I start learning it.

Notes: For the pushup/pullup work, I limited my right side to doing the amount of reps I got on my left, as I'm trying to iron out some muscle imbalances. Also, straight bridges were harder than I expected, so I'll be doing them with bent legs until I get stronger. My right shoulder was feeling a little odd before I started my workout, but it didn't prove to be an issue.

Just freestyling pullup and pushups variations all day long, feels good to just be unrestricted


notes: focused a lot on pullups on different sides, spelling letters, etc. For pushups I did something similar, plus a lot of reps with my fists close together
