PostSubject: standalone pull-up bars   Sun Jul 31, 2011 7:08 am

hey guys, i just moved apartments and none of the doors here work with my iron gym pull-up bar. i was thinking about just getting a tower like the "Stamina 1690 Power Tower" but then i came across "TC Sports Portable Chin Up Pull Up Bar" (here). the tower has dip handles but i like the long flat bar on the portable one, and the height is adjustable (i will be doing muscle ups and don't have a very high ceiling), but the main issue is would it be stable? anyone use this or similar portable bars?

That doesn't look like it would be the most stable pull up bar. Maybe for slow controlled pull ups & muscle ups but I think if you kip even a little bit that setup is going to get shaky. Just my opinion. I have no first hand experience with it. The design I made for a stand alone pull up bar had a 5' x 8' foot print and was going to be constructed of heavy gauge steel just for stability.
