 Leg Workout

Today I started out originally wanting to do a leg workout, so i decided to do 5 x 5min of squatting (regular bodyweight squats) with a 60sec break in between rounds. For the rounds I got 175, 172, 170, 154, 176. The total was 847. Then I decided to go for 1000 so I did another 5 min round to do 153 squats. My legs were dead after. Basically I did 1000 squats in less than 35min. Try it (assuming you are used to high volume bodyweight squats). You can go beastmode by wearing a weighted vest if you want.

So basically the workout:
5 x 5min rounds of regular bodyweight squats, 60sec break in between rounds (I got the 5min squat idea from http://thebarunion.com/)

OR

1000 squats for time

Neither or these are beginner workouts!!

dude, that's crazy. i'd love to see a sped up video of that for inspiration. the most i ever trained up to was 500 in 17 min. btw, for those of you who don't work your legs, doing max squats could leave you sore for a week Twisted Evil

yea i hear you, if I ever do this much i'm usually sore for a good several days. It's a good challenge to take once in a while, but I don't usually do this much. I want to start doing pistols now...or at least when my legs aren't sore haha. If I do it again i'll try to get a video of it.

1000 Squats? Man, that requires some time and some endurance haha

Sounds tough for sure. I know I wouldn't be able to do that. Tabata squats had me sore for a few days the first time.

Wow great work man! I'm glad you posted this, because after I read it, you inspired me to go and do a leg workout. Squats, lunges, Swiss ball leg curls, calf raises. So thanks for posting! I think I'm going to feel it tomorrow! Hopefully I can build up to your endurance in time!

No problem man. some things i did for endurance is just do high reps of squats. For my workouts i would do sets of squats anywhere from 15-50 reps, combined with other exercises for a whole body workout. By the end of the workout i would have done about 300 squats, sometimes more or less. I would do this about 3 times per week.

Both are good as long as you are doing them with proper form. I did them at a medium pace (a little faster then 2 seconds a rep).

In general if the reps are smaller sometimes i'll go faster but most of the time i just do medium. It's easier to keep the intensity that way. Trying to do that many squats fast, you'll more than likely slow down towards the end.

did this a couple days ago:

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 jump squat pyramid x 3
2/4/6/8/10/12/14/16/18/20/18/16/14/12/10/8/6/4/2 squat pyramid x 1

rested between pyramids 1 minute
rest was number of reps completed in previous set in pyramid (4 reps = 4 sec rest...)

legs are so sore, brutal workout.
