hi loganlion,

what is the benefit of a weight belt. I have just started to use weight for pull ups and i put the weight in a backpack. It's currently 5 kg Embarassed

Can i damage my back if i use heavy weights in a backpack? I don't want to buy a weight vest, because i have 30 kg weights at home which i can use for pullups.

SFX, dont rly know but i think it is better if u put the backpack the other way around so that the weight is in front of you. less stress on the spine i think.

weight vest would be the greatest!

the most (cheap) weighted vests have a weight of 10 kg and i don't know if this will be too less in future...

The thing is, you can do 2 things with calisthenics for progression; add weight to simple moves like pull ups, dips, etc. or you can work on harder progressions like planche, one arm pull up, etc.

A weight belt is useful for adding weight to simple moves. However, you don't gain nearly as much, in my opinion, as you would from training the advanced strength moves like planche. With the advanced moves, you learn how to control your body through space, among other things. If you haven't yet, you should read convict conditioning. It's a good book about how to progress to advanced calisthenic moves like the OAP, Handstand Push Up, Standing Bridge, Pistol Squat, etc. all with just calisthenic training. No extra weights needed.

The distribution of weight in a weight vest is more ideal than with a weight belt, but as long as you're not using it too much, nothing bad should happen. I made my own weight belt with chain, a strong carabiner, and pipe insulator.
