| So only just yesterday did I finally figure out how to hold a freestanding handstand for a long time. MASSIVE thanks to Daniel and his videos and one of my friends, a bboy, who just told me to practice like, for an extremely long time, which I did and finally got the balance down. Now my question is for freestanding handstand pushups. When you push down, you usually move most of your force backs onto your palms, which always causes me to bring my legs back down. How do you account for this when you do handstand pushups? Do you lean your legs back over your head farther? Or what? |

| Isn't it mostly core? I still can't hold myself in an unassisted handstand for more than a few seconds, plus I usually end up with a NAGGING headache that won't go away for hours. :-( Really discouraging.
Why don't you try doing handstand push-ups with bent legs, and then work your way to straightening one, and then another? Would that work or am I crazy? :-P |

| I think doing it with bent legs might take more energy as it's easier to keep balance if your legs are straight up. |

| Its basically the same as when ur standing up... if u move slightly forward with ur upper body, u automatically tense ur core AND push down on the balls of ur feet, to prevent falling. If u move ur upper body backwards, u automatically tense ur core and push down with ur heels.. So the trick is when ur doing a handstand: if ur about to go back down, push down with ur wrists.. and if ur about to tilt over press down with ur fingers... simple as that *Remember to make sure that ur hands aren't too wide apart. And to spread the fingers * Hope that helps :-) |

| Anytime I do an exercise that intensely utilizes the lower back I get headaches too, so usually the cure for me is to properly warm up the lower back and then you don't have to worry about it! Unassisted handstands will make your lowerback sore if you're just starting to learn the balance part but you'll adjust quickly. Headaches should go away too as your body becomes used to inversion and if you warm up your lowerback with some light bridging or even some half ROM dragonflags. |
